Congratulations to Sophie, Amy and James who after years of training, today received their black belts from Senseis Osaka, Ohta and Naka at the Spring International course at Guildford. Well done also to Will who passed basics and kumite parts of his grading in excellent form.

Saturday 6 December was the Brown/ Black belt course and Dan grading with Sensei Gneo as guest instructor. The first half of the session was with Sensei Chubachi, is a visiting JKA Honbu instructor. The Second part was with Sensei Gneo who worked on the katas Jitte and Bassai Sho. Harry is pictured with Sensei Chubachi. Well done Harry!
Sensei Ohta Visits Colchester

We welcomed our Chief Instructor Sensei Y.Ohta (6th Dan JKA) for the very first time at the beginning of the month.
Sensei Ohta is a graduate of Takushoku University, he has also attended the famous JKA Instructors Classes. Between 1982 and 2003 he was the official assistant to Sensei K. Enoeda 9th Dan (deceased). During this time Ohta Sensei built up an international reputation and is now considered as one of the most popular and technically skilled Shotokan Instructors in the world today.
Brown and black belts had the privilege of training with Sensei, working on distance basics and the kata Enpi.
The all grades session afterwards was very popular and included all the Heian katas, Tekki-Shodan and Bassai-Dai. Read more of this post

It was Colchester JKA Karate Club’s third Kyu Grading which was held on 16th June. Sensei Adel Ismail (JKA 5th Dan) took an advanced and a general class of 40 plus members through their paces, concentrating on basic techniques, kumite and kata including Kanku-Dai. Read more of this post
